Stop Waiting, Start Analyzing: Accelerate Your Data Offloads
In the fast-paced world of geospatial data capture, time is a precious commodity. Emesent product manager Mark Gordon outlines some of the key challenges of dealing with large files and how Emesent’s fast data offload dramatically improves the way Hovermap’s raw data can be managed.

GB-sized headaches
For surveyors juggling heavy workloads and tight deadlines, achieving workflow efficiencies is key. However, as scan data continues to grow in size, the time it takes to offload the raw data is becoming increasingly burdensome. High-density datasets, while offering greater detail, further exacerbate this issue, slowing down the ability to complete project deliverables. As well, large and numerous datasets can create data management headaches due to the storage impact on capture devices and the network. The sheer volume of data generated from large-area and extended-duration captures—such as from vehicle and long range scans —is pushing the limits of what is manageable.
These inefficiencies can have a ripple effect, delaying projects, driving up operational costs, and ultimately eroding profit margins on time-sensitive projects. To maintain a competitive edge, there’s an urgent need to streamline workflows, enabling faster data processing and more timely, informed decision-making.
Supercharged data offloads
That’s why Emesent has launched Fast Data Offload, a software workflow improvement that significantly reduces the time it takes to transfer Hovermap files. By reducing raw data size while maintaining data quality and accuracy and at the same time optimizing how data flows, it is now up to 80% faster to offload Hovermap’s raw data, which means users can start processing sooner.
This is ideal for customers who conduct multiple scans a day, or capture large or lots of datasets. As well, users benefit from being able to send smaller data sets to their processing computer in turn requiring less space to store data, for historic backups on their network, making data management less of a challenge.
Dramatic improvements
We’ve tested the solution on different sizes and types of scans. Here are the results that were achieved based on a 10 minute scan captured by drone and transferred on a 128 GB USB drive.
Payload | Scan Environment | Offload time improvement | File size reduction |
---|---|---|---|
ST | Indoor | 81% | 89% |
Outdoor | 69% | 91% | |
ST-X | Indoor | 83% | 89% |
Outdoor | 79% | 90% |
