Hovermap Accuracy Report

Emesent’s head-to-head comparison with other leading LiDAR scanners.

3D data quality is defined in terms of accuracy, precision and repeatability. In this report, we present the results of an evaluation coordinated by the U.S. Institute of Building Documentation (USIBD) at the GeoWeek 2024 Expo.

The evaluation was conducted for a typical indoor building mapping exercise with the aim of comparing the results from a variety of LiDAR mapping vendors.

Emesent’s Hovermap ST-X scanner and accompanying Aura processing software consistently outperformed competitors, producing 3D data with global accuracy of 10mm without the use of GCPs, and less than 5mm with the use of GCPs. This includes a dataset captured at jogging speed without loop closure (start and end location more than 300m apart). Other scanners produced global accuracy results varying from 9mm to 35mm.
