Construction As-built Survey

Deliver detailed 3D as-built models in a fraction of the time

Improve competitiveness with rapid, accurate and continuous data capture

As-builts are crucial for ensuring that all stakeholders have an accurate record and comprehensive understanding of the site. They also highlight changes made during construction that depart from the design (whether intended or not), and allow planning for future renovations, extensions and maintenance. Yet the complexity and dynamic nature of construction projects presents a number of challenges when it comes to accurate, complete and timely as-built documentation. Changes made during construction from original plans can be challenging to capture leading to incomplete or mismatched data, and the fast paced nature of construction can mean it is difficult to keep documentation up to date. Add to this manual processes or challenges integrating different software tools and effectively managing large volumes of data and the impact can be significant. In fact a study has shown that bad construction data costs the industry $1.8 trillion worldwide.

Addressing these challenges requires a combination of better technology, improved processes, and effective communication to ensure that as-built documents accurately reflect the final constructed environment.

As-built data capture can be challenging

Reliance on manual measurements and data collection for as-built documentation is labor-intensive, prone to human error, and difficult to integrate. This approach often results in inaccuracies, incomplete details, project delays, and increased labor costs. Furthermore, it lacks scalability and fails to capture the full spatial context or detailed nuances of a project.

As a result, as laser scanning technology became available, engineers have turned to Terrestrial Laser Scanners (TLS) for capturing the as-built environment. However despite its advantages it still presents several challenges. Initial costs for TLS equipment and software are high, which can be a barrier for some projects. Specialized training and expertise is required to ensure accurate data capture and processing, adding to the skill set needed on a project. Equipment is time consuming to set up and must be done so multiple times, making data capture slow and hindering the ability to efficiently conduct regular scans to ensure documentation is up to date. Furthermore, while TLS captures detailed 3D information, it might still require supplementary methods to capture certain hidden or inaccessible areas. Environmental factors such as weather conditions, lighting, and obstructions can also impact the quality of the scan.

Rapid, accurate 3D data capture for As-Built Modeling

Emesent Hovermap combines accuracy with speed of capture, allowing you to deliver detailed 3D as-built models in a fraction of the time of traditional methods. Its advanced SLAM algorithms and continuous scanning capabilities enable accurate, rapid and detailed data capture of complex environments that easily scale to large projects. Multiple deployment options, including handheld, backpack or mounted to a pole deliver the versatility required to capture intricate areas such as around pipes and machinery. This is coupled with real time processing that allows for immediate feedback and adjustment as you scan to ensure complete data capture without return trips to site.

The data captured is automatically georeferenced in Emesent Aura, ready for import into BIM tools such as Revit, supporting continuous updates and maintenance of documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
